HYDERABAD: SPLA threatens to boycott exams
HYDERABAD, Sept 11: President of the Sukkur region of the Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA), Prof Mohammad Ayoub Mari, has demanded that the Shah Abdul Latif University should implement a written agreement of appointing 60 per cent college teachers for examination duties in degree examinations.
If the agreement was not implemented, college teachers of the Larkana and Sukkur division would boycott the examinations scheduled to be held from Sept 12, he threatened.
Ayoub Mari, who is also a member of the Shah Latif University senate, demanded that university’s Chancellor and Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad should direct the vice-chancellor to implement the written agreement, which had been approved by the university syndicate.
Speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Monday, Prof Mari alleged that the vice-chancellor of the Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur had broken all records of malpractices and misuse of powers.
He said the vice-chancellor was discriminating against college teachers, though the university drew over 50 per cent of its income from the affiliated degree colleges in the shape of examination form fee.
He claimed that an agreement had been signed between the vice chancellor and SPLA under which 60 per cent of examination duties were to be performed by the college teachers and 40 per cent by university teachers.
He said the agreement also contained that only 300 students would be accommodated at one examination centre with a view to eliminating copy culture. He said that at such centres, one additional factotum would be provided to enable the college management to conduct examination in a proper manner.
He, however, said if 400 students were accommodated in any examination centre, an additional internal superintendent would also be appointed and in case of 600 students, three external superintendents would be posted.
