KARACHI: 6 teams from Hyderabad: Spelling Bee join contest

KARACHI, Sept 16: The number of city round finalists of the third “Dawn in Education-National Spelling Bee” competition reached 36 as another six teams qualified through preliminary rounds held at Bahria Auditorium on Saturday.

About 60 teams took part in the competition out of which six were from Hyderabad. It was heartening that despite the fact they were disturbed physically and mentally in the wake of the recent heavy downpours, students from Hyderabad schools came for the competition.

The pronouncers were David Taylor, Yasmeen Lakhany and Sue Gilbert. Seema Khan, Urooj Dar, Nabeel Alvi, Sunil Iqbal and Jenefir Sunil were the judges on the occasion.

The winning teams were, 9-11 age group; Ali Shambeel Jafri, Uzair Nadeem and Mahnoor Baker of Springfield School, Rida Maryam Zafar, Alizeh Sethi and Sana Asif of Foundation Public School (Junior Campus).12-14 age group; Almas Diamond, Omer Sadia Sheikh and Zara Khan of Hampton School and Umber Rasheed, Fatima Iqbal and Mohammad Bilal of Happy Palace Grammar School. 15-17 age group; Ahla Hasan, Saman Zehra and Zain Hassan of The City School (PAF Chapter) and Farah Siddiqui, Wasfa Farooq and Fatima Khan of Springfield School.
