HYDERABAD, Sept 16: The level of water has receded on main roads and to some extent in residential areas in parts of Latifabad and Qasimabad talukas as water is being disposed of from temporary pumping stations.

Barring a few pockets such as Sheedi Goth and Waqar Town, the situation is better in residential areas of Qasimabad taluka.

A visit to various parts on Saturday showed that water had receded on main roads of Latifabad No-11 though residential areas were still under ankle-deep water which was stinking and unbearable for people.

The market of unit No-11 of Latifabad was partially opened but traders found many dead rats in shops, causing foul smell.

Motorcyclists could now move in the market without much hassle but boats are still needed in Ayub Colony, Zam Zam Medical Store area, Urban Hospital, B-II and C-II blocks.

A large number of shops were still closed.

People are still facing drinking water shortage because they are not getting potable water through normal system of Wasa.

The main pumping station of the unit is still inundated under rainwater.

The stagnant water continued to be disposed of across the Indus river bund adjacent to Latifabad No-12. There was a dire need of cleanliness in the parts of unit No-11 where water had receded completely.

In unit No-2, inner pockets are still under stinking rainwater where boats are navigating to ferry people from and to their homes.

Drainage of water is still required in the American quarter while water was drained out from parts of Latifabad No-10 but the main road and streets were still submerged, causing problems to residents.

Boat operation continued till last night in Latifabad-8 and now the streets has been cleared of rainwater.

“I am sure that by tonight boat operation in unit No-11 would be closed while in unit No-2 it would take some hours during the night”, said the district nazim while speaking to journalists during a visit to Latifabad.

He said that 75 per cent of water had been drained out from unit No-11 while 50 per cent dewatering had taken place in unit No-2.

He said that it was only made possible after setting up of temporary pumping stations and upgrading of another one in the unit.

“Around 3,000 gallons of water per minute is being disposed of from the unit’s temporary pumping station while following upgradation of actual pumping station of unit No-2 will result in disposal of 2,800 to 3,.000 gallons per minute”, he said. He said that Latifabad sewage disposal station-I had been upgraded where 100hp machines were working against its capacity of 50hp.

Areas of Waqar town and Sheedi villages, Shoro villages near Bachao bund Qasimabad are still under rainwater.

Troops had built a bund between Shoro villages to avoid gravitational flow of water from one village to other.

Pumping machines are sucking water from inundated villages and throwing it into the river. The main roads of Qasimabad were cleansed.

Cleanliness drive has been launched in Latifabad No-5 and 9.

Water is still standing in Sadaat colony, Mariam Siddique school and Khanzada colony but in major parts, water has been drained out.
