HYDERABAD: Committees asked to submit monitoring reports

HYDERABAD, Oct 20: The district naib nazim of Hyderabad, Mr Zafar Rajput, who is also convener of the district council, has directed chairmen of monitoring committees of the district council to be vigilant and submit their reports every three months on regular basis so that matter can be discussed in the council session.

In a meeting with chairmen of monitoring committees in his office here on Thursday, he advised them to study the Sindh Local Government Ordinance which provides details of the legal procedure about working of the 12 devolved departments.

He said that monitoring committees were required to see if their departments were working according to rules, and protecting the rights of citizens.

Mr Rajput asked the chairmen to work hard and go out in the field and submit their reports in the council in such a way that not only bottlenecks and irregularities are removed but development activities are also made transparent.

He advised them that in addition to their own observation, they should remain in touch with nazims and chairmen of monitoring committees of union councils and taluka councils to get feedback about development activities being carried out in their respective areas. He asked them not to spare officers or organisations if they were found delinquent.

Responding to a complaint presented in the meeting, the district naib nazim said that officers of the district government would be directed to inform the concerned union council nazim and chairmen of monitoring committees before executing any scheme in their jurisdiction.

Responding to another issue raised in the meeting about violation of building rules, Mr Rajput said that it has been observed that some builders are habitual in violating the rules and dispose of parking areas for commercial purposes as such the residents of plazas and other people were experiencing traffic problem at present.

He asked the chairmen concerned to be vigilant and identify such irregularities so that action could be taken against these builders. He said that the director of the Building Control Authority would be bound down to submit approved building plans to the council and in case of violation the concerned approved plan would be cancelled.

While discussing performance of the health committee, the district naib nazim asked chairmen to take precautionary measures against dengue virus.
