PHC upholds nazims’ disqualification

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Oct 20: The D.I. Khan Bench of Peshawar High Court on Friday upheld a decision of the election tribunal disqualifying seven union nazims.

The nazims-elect had been disqualified by the election tribunal on the grounds that they possessed Deeni Madaris certificates. In the light of the decision of the tribunal, runner-up candidates on these seats were declared winners.

The bench comprising Justice Fazlur Rehman and Justice Said Maroof, however, ordered re-election on these seats.

Of those disqualified by the tribunal, four are from Lakki Marwat, two from Dera Ismail Khan and one from Tank district.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the disqualified candidates have decided to move the Supreme Court against the decision of the Peshawar High Court.
