HYDERABAD: Canal breach floods crops on 1,500 acres

HYDERABAD, Nov 8: Vegetables, sugarcane, onion and cotton crops on 1,500 acres were inundated after Naseer Wah developed a 100-foot breach, eight kilometres from Tando Allahyar on Wednesday morning.

Efforts were being made to plug the breach till the time the story was filed.

The breach also posed a serious threat to Tando Allahyar town and Mehran Sugar Mills.

PWF: The Pakistan Workers Federation has criticised HDA director-general Altaf Memon for hiring services of a private company for distribution of HDA’s water bills.

In a joint statement issued here on Tuesday, PWF Sindh president Mir Khan Baloch, Iqbal Qaimkhani and Qazi Saleem Anwar said the action would endanger the future of hundreds of Wasa employees.

They said that it would also add to the deficit of the HDA.
