Addressing a military darbar at the Punjab Regimental Centre in Dargai, the site of Wednesday’s suicide attack, the president said suicide attacks were against the spirit of Islam.

He said if the government did not check the scourge of extremism and terrorism the country would suffer.

The president said the government was determined to fight extremism and terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. He said the army was capable taking up the challenge and its morale was high.

He asked the nation to maintain unity and solidarity and to raise voice against those who preached violence and hatred. He asked them to reject elements who were trying to impose their extremists thoughts on others.

President Musharraf assured families of the Dargai attack victims that they would be well looked after by both civil and military authorities. He said good care was being taken of the injured.

Fateha was also offered for the victims.
