CJP asks court to decide abduction case on merit
ISLAMABAD, Nov 14: Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, has ordered a court dealing with the case of alleged abduction of a girl to decide it on merit in the light of the evidence produced before it.
A complainant, Mst Naseem Akhtar, had prayed to the chief justice to direct the police to register FIR, arrest the accused and prosecute them for alleged abuse of her daughter.
On order of the chief justice the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Islamabad, submitted his comments and started a thorough inquiry in the case, according to a press release of the Supreme Court issued on Tuesday.
The complainant had alleged that two boys, Bilal and Andleeb, encountered her daughter while she was going to a shop. Andleeb abused her and threatened her, while giving a mobile to her, to remain in contact.
She stated that her frightened daughter did not tell her what had happened and one day the accused boys took the girl forcibly to Commercial Market in Rawalpindi and then to a jungle in Islamabad, where a party police caught them.
Later, the complainant stated, the accused abducted the girl, kept her at an unknown place for eight days and raped her. The girl was found at Mansehra and an old man brought her in his vehicle to Islamabad and her home.
Following the order of the chief justice, the IG Police Islamabad informed the Apex Court that a case has been registered on the complaint of Mst Naseem Akhtar, at Police Station, Sabzi Mandi, Islamabad and the five accused have been arrested and confined in Judicial lock-up.
The IGP further stated that investigation of the case is being carried out and after completion of the investigation, a challan will be submitted in the court.
The police have been directed by the Apex Court to provide the complainant and her two daughters with necessary protection according to law.
The IGP has also informed the court that alleged rape by SI Abdul Ghafoor was not proved, but he was found guilty of misconduct for the reason that after medical examination of the girl he brought her without a lady constable from hospital to Police Station. The constable has been punished with compulsory retirement.—APP
