Khairpur jail inmates complain of torture

KHAIRPUR, Nov 14: Prisoners of the Khairpur central jail have complained that they are subjected to torture and provided substandard food by the jail administration.

The district and sessions judge Khairpur on Tuesday inspected the hospital and barracks and tested food provided to prisoners.

The prisoners told the judge that they were not being taken for hearings regularly.

They said that they were provided good food when an official visited the jail. On other days it was substandard.

The prisoners said that attitude of the jail administration during night was harsh and some times sentries subject them to torture.

One of the prisoners said that cases of the accused in personal disputes should be tried in the jail. The prisoners demanded that medicines should be provided at the jail hospital.

The jail administration called upon the judge to order fumigation spray to save the inmates against dengue virus.

BOOKED: A case was registered against five police officials, including in-charge of the Faiz Mohammad Bindo police station, on the directives of the first additional and sessions judge on Monday night.

Complainant Nadir Odho said that Faiz Mohammad Bindo along with other four police officials, took him to the police station and deprived him of Rs10,000, mobile phone and gold chain.
