Movement to continue till ouster of Musharraf, says Qazi

RAWALPINDI, Dec 1: Warning the government of more protests in the coming days, Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) President and Jamaat-i-Islami Amir Qazi Hussain Ahmad Friday said the movement to oust General Musharraf from power had begun.

Addressing a protest rally at Raja Bazaar here against the passing of Women Protection Bill (WPB), Qazi said the religious alliance had decided to mobilise and apprise the masses of the repercussions of the bill.

“We would continue agitation until General Musharraf resigns. The general is implementing secular ideas in the country against the wishes of masses,” the MMA chief said.

Qazi Hussain said free, fair and transparent elections could not be held under the supervision of General Musharraf adding that the MMA would not hesitate to submit resignations from the assemblies to force him to step down.

He warned the government of a march on Islamabad adding that a call in this regard would be given soon.

He said MMA was not opposed to the empowerment of women but it won’t accept the bill passed by parliament to please the West.

Qazi Hussain said that the rulers were bent on distorting the religious and cultural identity of the country in the name of empowerment of women. He said the policies of the government were detrimental to the national interest.

The MMA leader said there were no differences in the religious alliance over the resignation issue adding that a consensus decision in this regard would be taken soon.
