Independent judiciary strengthens democratic institutions: Musharraf

RAWALPINDI, Dec 2: President Gen Pervez Musharraf has said that he believes in independent and strong judiciary which strengthens democratic institutions, ensures good governance and stability in the country.

He was talking to Supreme Court Chief Justice Mohammad Iftikhar Chaudhry, who called on him here on Saturday to present the Report of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (Golden Jubilee Edition) 2005-06, Annual Report of Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan and a book on National Judicial Conference.

The president assured the chief justice that the quarters concerned would be directed to provide all-out support and do the needful to strengthen the apex court to improve and facilitate its working.

He said there would be no problem for funds provision and the government would furnish necessary funds to construct additional blocks and provide a congenial working environment for the smooth functioning of the apex court.

Appreciating the efforts of the apex court on taking measure to provide speedy justice to litigant parties, the president said it was a matter of great satisfaction for him that judiciary was working well and efficiently.

The chief justice briefed the president on working of the apex court and said a number of measures had been taken to dispose of cases expeditiously.
