HYDERABAD, Dec 10: Naib Ameer Jamaat-i-Islami Dr Mirajul Huda Siddiqi has reiterated that the government cannot enforce the Protection of Women Act after rushing it through parliament and the party will continue its struggle against the controversial law.

Speaking to party workers at Markaz-i-Tableegh-i-Islam on Saturday, Mr Siddiqi said that JI was in favour of resigning but some sacrifices had to be made to keep the alliance intact.

He alleged that the government had created a divide between the followers of Holy Prophet (PBUH) and the rest of society and made an intricate plan to ensnare the religious parties and scholars.

He said that there was no doubt that Pakistan People’s Party and Muttahida Qaumi Movement had a secular agenda and reminded Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain that he was a federal minister when Hudood ordinance was drafted and enforced.

JACOBABAD: JI activists staged a procession in Kandhkot in protest against the protection of women law. JI leaders, Mumtaz Bhutto and Haji Zafarullah Chang led the procession, which marched through different roads of the city before reaching Tower Road.

SUKKUR: MMA activists staged a rally and observed a sit-in on National Highway near Kashmore. MMA leaders Mumtaz Hussain Sahito, Hafiz Nasrullah Aziz led the protesters who blocked traffic on the highway for an hour.

The leaders said that the act had deprived women of their rights and made them unsafe and warned that they would not tolerate amendments to the Hudood Ordinance.
