A.J. Kardar passes away

WASHINGTON, Feb 16: Famous Pakistani filmmaker and director A.J. Kardar died in London on Thursday after a protracted illness.

He was 76 and was said to have been suffering from cancer for the last year or so. He was buried in Harrow, Middlesex, on Friday.

Kardar collaborated with Faiz Ahmed Faiz on many films and documentaries. His film Jago Huwwa Savera won several international awards. He also directed a large number of documentaries, including one on Iqbal.

For the last 25 years, he had been living in London. During the 1970s he worked with the National Film Development Corporation (NAFDEC).

Kardar came from the famous Kardar family of old Lahore and was the first cousin of Abdul Hafiz Kardar and the celebrated Indian filmmaker and producer A.R. Kardar.—APP
