SUKKUR: Civic agencies accused of negligence

SUKKUR, Dec 17: Role of the civic agencies in clearing heaps of garbage and sewage water accumulating on main roads of the city came under severe criticism at an All Parties Conference (APC) held here on Sunday.

The APC was attended by the local leaders of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam, Pakistan People’s Party, Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party, Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaaz, Sindh National Front, Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf, Awami Tehrik, Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal and others.

The participants said that all the main roads of the city were in a shambles as the PTCL and SSGC have dug the roads, blocking the traffic flow at various places, especially at Minara road, Bunder road (where despite a ban, several trucks are parked to load and unload the goods at godowns raised in the area), Race Course road, Station road and the Clock Tower.

On the other hand, sewage water and heaps of garbage were seen accumulated on the roads, makin g it impossible for the commuters to move.

They said that although the PTCL and SSGC pay road-cutting charges to the Town Municipal Administration, the roads are not carpeted properly after completion of work, causing hardships to motorists and pedestrians.

The meeting demanded of the TMA to pay attention towards proper sanitation of the city, and create hygienic conditions for the people .

Lashing out at the Hesco authorities, they alleged that the power distribution company had resorted to an un-announced load-shedding and were also issuing detection bills to the consumers to cover-up line losses, caused due to electricity theft.

The meeting, expressing its anxiety over the low pressure of gas, alleged that the SSGC officials resort to this method in winter season. They demanded of the SSGC high-ups to take notice of the high-handedness of the gas officials.

The meeting also decided to take out a protest rally from Teer Chowk to clock tower on December 24.

KIDNAPPED: A man Lumber Pitafi was kidnapped from Keenjhar village in the jurisdiction of Dad Leghari police station, near Mirpur Mathelo, on Sunday afternoon.
