HYDERABAD: Pakistan federal in name only: Jalal

HYDERABAD, Dec 24: The chief and founder of newly-formed Sindh United Party (SUP) Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah has said that Pakistan is federal only in name and is being run for all practical purposes under a unitary form of government.

The federating units were totally powerless in decision making about their financial resources and administrative matters, Mr Shah said while addressing a meeting of the party’s Jamshoro chapter at the G. M. Syed Edifice on Saturday evening.

He said that all the natural resources of federating units were under the direct control of federation. Not only this, but the provincial assembly could not even enact laws according to their own requirements, he said.

Sindh was the richest among all federating units but its people were the poorest, had an ever-growing army of unemployed people and deteriorating law and order, he said, adding that the entire coastline of the province had been occupied by land grabbers.

Mr Shah said that unfortunately the leaders of federal as well as nationalist parties had been unable to understand things in their true perspective nor had they been capable of facing challenges.

It as the main reason behind the formation of Sindh United Party which would try to protect the rights of Sindhi people within the framework of federation, he said.

The meeting presided over by the party’s district organiser Mir Moula Bux Leghari also appointed taluka organisers for Jamshoro, Thana Bula Khan and Sehwan.
