KHAIRPUR: Strike against price hike continues
KHAIRPUR, Dec 26: A shutter down strike was observed for the second consecutive day on Tuesday in Akri Chowdagi, Faiz Ganj taluka against price hike. The office-bearers of different political and social organizations along with citizens took out a procession and staged a demonstration on Kumb-Nawabshah road. They also set ablaze tyres and blocked the road. Their leaders Hidayat Ali, Muzaffar Hussain and others accused the traders of selling the commodities on a higher price.
They said that they lodged complaints with the concerned officials but no action has so far been taken. They further added that government had established utility stores but they had proved useless as employees were selling the items to traders in bulk while neglecting the people.
LOOTED: Passengers of two coaches were deprived of valuables in Khairpur district during the last 48 hours. Seven armed men intercepted a Karachi-bound passenger coach coming from Lahore on the National Highway near Hingorja late on Monday night and deprived the passengers of cash, mobile phones, wrist watches, gold chains and other valuables. The passengers staged a demonstration against the incident for sometime.
On Sunday night, four armed men embarked a Sukkur-bound coach and held the passengers hostage on gunpoint near Arab Pul village , Gambat on the National Highway and robbed them of cash, gold ornaments and other valuables.
The bandits disembarked near Moosani village. However, no case was registered regarding the two incidents till the filing of this report.
