Dadu railway station to be renovated

DADU, Dec 28: A team of senior railway officials visited railway sections from Kotri up to Dadu on Thursday and inspected different parts of railway tracks, gates, buildings of stations, offices and residential colonies.

The team comprised the Divisional Superintendent of Railways Karachi, Mir Mohammad Khaskheli, Divisional Commercial Officer, Tahir Bukhari and Divisional Transport Officer, Afaq Ahmed.

Speaking at a meeting of railway officers, the DS Railways Karachi, said that repair of railway station of Dadu and its VVIP lounge would be carried out, area for parking would be developed and damaged walls of offices of the railway station would be reconstructed.

Station Master Dadu, Ghulam Hussain Lanjar, suggested to the meeting to reserve a 50 seats quota in main line trains including Awam express, Khyber mail express, Karakoram express for passengers of Dadu.

RAILWAY COLONY: Meanwhile 150 quarters ad a piece 40 acres of land on western and eastern sides of railway station had been occupied by some influential people by constructing shopping centres, plaza and houses in connivance with the railway officials and the railway police.

The railway employees were deprived of gas, drainage and sanitation facilities and compelled to use contaminated water. A drinking water well had also been rendered useless.

In charge operator of water supply filter plant of railway station Dadu, Nabi Bux Halepoto, said that two ponds of water supply scheme were getting dirty water through a waterway because residents of Mazdoorabad were draining out their waste water into it.

He said that chlorination plant of water filter plant was lying closed since 1982 and officials were not providing them bleaching powder and other material for water purification.

INCOME REDUCED: Income of railway station has decreased because the police and railway officials were involved in sale of tickets to the passengers. Some 10 years back, income of this railway station was Rs 50,000 to Rs60,000 per day which now has reduced to Rs25,000.
