Musharraf meets US general
ISLAMABAD, Dec 29: President General Pervez Musharraf met the US Army's Chief of Staff, Gen Peter J. Schoomaker, on Friday to discuss military cooperation, a senior Pakistani army official said.
The US general discussed the “latest situation in the region, strategic issues and professional matters,” the official told the Associated Press on condition of anonymity. He gave no further details.
Gen Schoomaker’s visit to Rawalpindi came just days after Gen Musharraf’s government announced a plan to mine and fence parts of its border with neighbouring Afghanistan.
Online adds: Talking to the US army general, President Musharraf said that Pakistan would never compromise on its sovereignty and national interest in the war against terrorism and all possible measures would be adopted to uphold national integrity.
He said that strengthening military, strategic and defence ties between the two countries would help eliminate terrorism and extremism from the world. The US chief of staff reportedly lauded the achievements and professional capabilities of Pakistan Army in the war against terror.
