NAWABSHAH: Tail-endgrowers demand water
NAWABSHAH, Jan 3: The tail-end growers of Jhemal Shakh of Nusrat division staged a demonstration outside the local press club on Wednesday. They were protesting against artificial shortage of water.
Led by Amin Dahiri, they alleged that influential growers s had removed frames of modules and were stealing water, depriving the small growers of their due share of water.
They said they had drawn attention of the irrigation authorities time and again but no action was taken as yet.
Meanwhile, chief engineer irrigation Sukkur barrage, Left Bank region Sukkur, in a press release issued here on Wednesday, announced that all canals of Sukkur barrage will remain close due to annual closure with effect from January 6 till January 20, (both days inclusive) for normal inspection/maintenance and necessary repair of the infrastructure.
He said during this period there would be no flow of water supply to any of the off-taking canals of Sukkur barrage i.e. N.W canal, Dadu canal, Khairpur Feeder East, Khairpur feeder West, Rohri Main canal and Nara canal.
SCHOOL FIRE: A primary school building reduced to ashes in Awami colony on Tuesday s a result of fire. Reports said that fire broke out in the government primary school due to short circuit. All record and furniture were reduced to ashes.
