Achakzai opposes Afghan border fencing, mining

QUETTA, Jan 4: Chief of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party Mahmood Khan Achakzai on Thursday cautioned the federal government against fencing and mining the Durrand Line, saying it would permanently divide Pakhtun tribes living along both sides of the border.

He was addressing a public meeting in Pishin on Thursday.

He said that while Durrand Line was a colonial remnant, forcibly dividing people living on both sides of the border, adding that families living on border should have the right to freely move across the borders.

"Military rulers would be responsible for consequences if fencing and mining (of the border region) is imposed on Pakhtuns and the Afghans living along the border, PMAP leader declared.

Mr Achakzai, who is also the president of Ponam, condemned the execution of Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein and said that Saddam Hussain had been punished because of his refusal to bow down before imperialist forces.

Referring to uncertain domestic political situation, Mr Achakzai said political instability was because of the denial of national rights to Pakhtuns, Balochs, Sindhis and Seraikis.

He said that the nationalist alliance would cooperate with ARD and MMA in its struggle against dictatorship, a non-political role for army and intelligence agencies and restoration of democracy.

He said that Pakhtuns were confronted with serious problems, adding that it was the responsibility of Pakhtun political parties to forge unity to rise up to challenges.

PMAP leader warned that disunity in Pakhtuns was the main cause for the outsiders to consolidate themselves in the tribal areas and emphasized that Pakhtuns must realize the gravity of the situation to fight back the anti- Pakhtun forces.

Ponam leader stressed that Pakhtun areas should be merged in single political administrative unit that should named as Pashtoonistan or Pakhtunkhwa or Afghania adding that Pakhtun province and other provinces of Balochs, Sindhis and Seraikis should be empowered to control its resources to end exploitative system.
