HYDERABAD: US research culture highlighted

HYDERABAD, Jan 17: Rajesh Kumar, visiting scholar from the University of Urbana Champaign, Illinois, USA, has said that huge funding is available for postgraduate students in America for research.

He was delivering a lecture on "Academic and research environment in American graduate schools" at the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology on Wednesday. The lecture was arranged by the Institute of IT of the university.

He said that many Chinese and Indian fresh graduates were getting research assistance in the US and the field was open for capable graduates of Pakistani universities to fetch similar assistance.

He said that all the research scholars had to do to get funds was to highlight their achievements and furnish well-written statements of purpose.

He said that United States was leading in research and technology because its professors give priority to research and they generated huge funding for their institutions from the industry.

Mr Kumar also gave a presentation on "Trends and problems in the area of wireless sensor networks."

Speaking on the occasion, Professor Dr B. S. Choudhry, chairman, department of electronics, telecommunication and biomedical engineering, said that wireless sensor technology had become the need of every discipline. He said that the application of sensor network was enormous and could be found in every walk of life.

Professor Dr A. K. Baloch, coordinator, Institute of IT, welcomed the visiting scholar from America.
