HYDERABAD: Benazir will not return, says CM

HYDERABAD, Jan 20: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has said that if PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto lands at the Karachi airport, she will be dealt with according to law, adding that she will have to face cases pending against her.

He was talking to journalists in Sekhat on Saturday, where he had come to attend the valima ceremony of Abid Ali Samoon.

The chief minister was of the opinion that Ms Bhutto would not return to Pakistan.

Answering a question about ARD Chairman Makhdoom Amin Fahim’s allegations that the government was interfering into the constituencies of Ms Bhutto, he posed a counter question whether the leaders of ruling parties could not visit Larkana and Matiari and whether PPP leaders were not visiting the constituencies of those in government.

Dr Arbab said that interests of Sindh were dear to him and he was safeguarding the interests. He said that his stand on Karachi islands and Kalabagh dam was in the interest of Sindh and added that the federal government had held out an assurance that no steps would be taken on the issues without taking the Sindh government into confidence.

On the occasion, Matiari District Nazim Mohammad Ali Shah Jamote, MPA Syed Jalal Shah Jamote and Pakistan Muslim League (Functional) leader Taimoor Ali Shah Jamote met with the chief minister and apprised him of the problems of the new district, particularly destruction of infrastructure, and pleaded for special funds.

Dr Arbab assured them that the problems would be solved and asked the district nazim to meet him in Karachi.
