HYDERABAD: ASI injured in bid to nab bandits

HYDERABAD, Jan 22: A group of bandits who were fleeing after robbing a shop injured an ASI when he tried to catch them in the Market police station’s area on Monday. Eye witnesses said that three armed bandits forced into a pesticides shop in the Market Tower, which was one of the busiest commercial areas of the city.

They held hostage the shop owner, Azizuddin Arain, former vice president of Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, his friend ASI Juman Palejo and “snatched around Rs350,000 cash, deprived him, his nephew and Juman of their cellphones, pocket money and wrist watches before fleeing,” said Mr Arain.

When they were hurrying out Mr. Palijo and Nadeem chased them and Nadeem managed to hit one of the robbers with a stone, which caused him to fall on the ground but he stood up and continued running.

He then snatched a bike and fled on it because his accomplices had already escaped on their bike after injuring Mr Palejo who was moved to civil hospital. Mr Palijo is posted at police headquarters.

ARRESTED: Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Khalid Mustafa Korai told journalists on Monday that police had nabbed a man on charges of killing Arif Solangi, a constable who was posted at cantonment police station.

He, however, did not disclose the name of the accused and said that police were near the gang involved in the case.

Earlier, DPO Ali Ahmed Junejo informed journalists that a team of Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) personnel had spotted a suspicious Hi Roof Suzuki near Sheedi Goth when they were patrolling the area.

He claimed that the occupants of the vehicle fled on seeing the police party, which, however, managed to get hold of the driver of the vehicle (CR-2776), which was stolen in the Sachal police station’s area in Karachi.

The driver identified as Raheem alias Mullah later spilled out the names of his accomplices who managed to escape. They were identified as Raheem Bux alias Nando, Ghulam Hyder alias Fauji Nondhani, Abdul Kareem alias Papli Thebo, Zahid Mashoori, Rashid Mohajir and Sikandar Ansari, he said.

Police had found an unlicensed pistol, a cellphone, ten prize bonds of Rs200 denomination and a large number of bullets in the vehicle, he said.

The DPO said that another team arrested Sajjad alias Sajoo near Timber Market who he alleged was a member of Raheem alias Nando’s gang and was involved in the murder of a former SHO’s cousin.

The team also arrested Faheem alias Muzaffar, Raheem alias Mulla and Khan Mohammad Khano alias Khand Patti station on charges of involvement in around 50 cases of street crimes, cell phone and car snatching, said the DPO.
