Aaqib keen to assist Shoaib Akhtar

LAHORE, Jan 23: Chief coach of National Cricket Academy (NCA), Aaqib Javed has offered to assist injured pacer Shoaib Akhtar in his rehabilitation process after he returns from South Africa later this week.

Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, Aaqib said fast bowlers were injury prone throughout the cricketing world and though Shoaib had little more fitness problems compared to the others, he was a national asset who should be given maximum support at all levels.

Aaqib added that flaws in the technique of any player could be removed, even at a later stage of his career, and he will try his best to improve the game of Salman Butt, Imran Farhat and other talented players.

He said he was currently working with six bowlers who were banned for chucking during the domestic season and they were showing signs of improvement already at the NCA.

“Pakistan Under-19 teams are scheduled to visit Australia, England and Bangladesh this year and the NCA will focus on preparing the best possible outfit for the challenging tours.”
