HYDERABAD: Foreign interference may harm N-programme, says Mamnoon
HYDERABAD, Feb 4: Pakistan Muslim League-N’s Senior-Vice-President Mamnoon Hussain said here on Sunday that the government had compromised the country's integrity by succumbing to external pressure, adding that he feared the increased outside interference in internal affairs might prove detrimental to nuclear programme.
Mr Hussian also said that the energy crisis in May and June this year might give rise to riots in the country as the government had made no arrangements for generating even one megawatt of additional power.
Addressing a news conference at the local press club along with a number of senior party leaders he said that though the government did not want the multi-party conference (MPC) convened by his party, but he hoped the opposition would succeed in holding the conference and form a grand alliance. It did not matter whether the MPC was convened by PML-N or ARD as both the platforms were one and the same, he said.
He demanded appointment of a neutral chief election commissioner to hold free and fair elections and said that PML-N believed that fair elections could not be held under Musharraf. Still the party would comply with the decision of opposition leadership, he said.
"The inter-provincial disharmony has never been so alarming than it is today although the government is harping on the same tune of cordial relations between provinces but its policies have sowed the seeds of hatred among them," he said.
He criticised the president's visit to Middle East, which he said came on the heels of Richard Boucher's visit. Musharraf urged the Gulf States to recognise Israel and linked Palestine state with the recognition of Israel but did not utter a word about Kashmir, he said.
He said that according to a recent survey carried out by Pakistan Bar Council around 5,800 people committed suicide in the first nine months last year in this Islamic republic.
He criticised Dr Ghazala Anwar appointed by Higher Education Commission as professor at the International Islamic University in Islamabad and said that she was teaching immoral values.PML-N Sindh President Saleem Zia, party leaders Afzal Gujjar, Makhdoom Shahnawaz and Shabbir Memon attended the press conference. Fifty-eight people led by Khalid Sherwani, a former PML leader, announced joining PML-N on the occasion.
