CHARSADDA: Soomro urges joint efforts against extremism

CHARSADDA, Feb 8: Senate Chairman Mohammadmian Soomro has stressed the need for joint efforts against the rising trend of extremism in the country.

He was speaking at a public meeting held to observe the 32nd death anniversary of Hayat Mohammad Khan Sherpao here on Thursday.

The meeting was organised by the Pakistan People’s Party (Sherpao).

Mr Soomro said he had heard the news of Hayat’s death at a meeting with the then Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in New York.

He said that at that time, he was a student at a US university.

He said that extremists involved in terrorism were inflicting a big loss to the socio-economic process in the country.

He said: “It is our collective responsibility to fight back the rising trend of extremism as it threatens economy.”

He said that for a healthy economy and more investment in the country, it was a basic duty of people to combat the phantom of extremism.

Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao pledged that the PPP-S would adhere to political philosophy of Hayat Shaheed and stay with people in their struggle for the rights.

Mr Sherpao said that the party had launched its election campaign from today and it would emerge as the biggest force of the province in the next elections.

He said the PPP would continue its political alliance with its coalition partners in the Centre and the present coalition would form the next government.
