HYDERABAD: Damaged wheat being supplied to flour mills
HYDERABAD, Feb 19: The Atta Chakki Owners Welfare Association, Hyderabad, has again complained that the Chakki (small flour mill) owners are being supplied damaged wheat from Bolhari wheat downs contrary to the assurances given to them by the Sindh director of food department.
In a statement issued here on Monday, the general secretary of the association, Haji Mohammad Hafeez, said that in a meeting with the food director on February 13, the Chakki owners were assured that they would not be supplied damaged wheat. On the assurance, the Chakki owners had called off their strike, he added.
He, however, said that the assistant food officer at Bolhari wheat godowns was supplying them damaged wheat which was injurious to human health. He pointed out that according to a laboratory test, the wheat had been found unfit for human consumption.
Mr Hafeez urged the food department to immediately suspend the supply of damaged wheat and warned that it failed to do so, the Chakki owners would be compelled to resort to protest and strike.
He appealed to the Sindh governor and chief minister to order an inquiry into the matter.
