KARACHI: Patient’s parents approach Musharraf

KARACHI, Feb 27: Finding no relief despite protest repeated appeals and lodging protests, the parents of Aariz Ali Shaikh, a 15 year old epilepsy patient admitted at the Aga Khan University Hospital, have finally approached President Pervez Musharraf for the redressal of their grievances.

At a press conference held on February 16, Aariz’ mother, Nighat Khursheed, claimed that it was negligence on the part of the medial staff and improper treatment, that her son, who was admitted for some epilepsy related procedures, had become a complicated health case. She demanded that this fact should be taken into account by the authorities when they conduct an inquiry.

According to a family member, despite efforts, the parent and other close relatives of Mr Aariz, had not been able to see him in the ICU for over two weeks as the hospital officials did not allow such a meeting.

We have approached the President and have been informed by his secretariat that the Sindh Health secretary had been asked to take action, said the patient’s father on Tuesday, saying that family was thankful to the President.

The hospital management maintains that it has given the best treatment and care to the patient and is accommodating the parents.
