Explosive-laden car found in Karachi

KARACHI, March 1: An explosive-laden car was found abandoned near Mohatta Palace in Clifton on Thursday.

Police said the car, which had been hijacked at gunpoint on August 10 last year in Gulistan-i-Jauhar, was spotted by a patrol of the Boat Basin police.

The car was brought to the police station and the Anti-car Lifting Cell was informed about its seizure.

Police said the ACLC staff took the car to the Sharea-i-Faisal police station which had registered the case of its hijacking on the complaint of Ahmed Bux Brohi.

They said that during the inspection of the car, police found 20 to 25 kilograms of explosive powder in its boot.

A timer, battery and detonator, which were not connected to the explosive material, were also found in the car, police said.

Police got the sketches of two carjackers prepared with the help of the car owner at the Citizen-Police Liaison Committee.

Police said one of the carjackers was in his late teens and the other in his early 20s.
