HYDERABAD: Students’ march against One Unit remembered
HYDERABAD, March 4: A number of nationalist parties on Sunday paid tribute to students of Sindh University who had staged a march from the Jamshoro campus to Hyderabad in 1967 against One Unit and were severely beaten by police near Rajputana Hospital on the orders of then commissioner Masroor Hassan Khan.
The Jeay Sindh Tehrik organised a seminar at the Hyderabad press club to commemorate the March 4 event. The seminar was addressed by leaders of different political and nationalist parties.
The speakers stressed the need for joint struggle for the rights of Sindh and demanded that the government should allocate six per cent of GDP for education and withdraw security forces from educational institutions.
They called for lifting ban on students' unions and producing in courts all the nationalist leaders of Sindh and Balochistan who they alleged were being held incommunicado for a long time.
Jeay Sindh Tehrik central president Dr Mir Alam Mari demanded that political activists of Sindh and Balochistan who were being held incommunicado should be produced in courts.
Yousuf Leghari advocate said that the March 4 of 1967 was the day when students declared war against a dictator.
JSM-B: Jeay Sindh Mahaz (Haider Bhutto) organised a function at the Husri press club to mark the March 4th day.
Haider Bhutto said in his speech that the movement was launched when attempts were made to eliminate Sindhi language.
JSSF: The Jeay Sindh Students Federation commemorated the day by holding meetings in hostels.
