Irfan qualifies for semis: Junior badminton

LAHORE, March 17: Hafiz Irfan of Lahore has qualified for semi-finals of the boys’ under-16 event in the National Junior badminton championships by defeating Adil of the NWFP 21-5, 21-7 in a quarter-final at the Iqbal Park Sports Complex on Saturday.

In girls’ U-16 quarter-finals, Monisha of Sindh outclassed Faryal Shahzad of the same province 21-8, 21-9.

Girls’ U-19 quarter-finals and boy’s U-19 pre-quarter-finals were also played.

The semi-finals were scheduled to be played on Saturday night with the final on Sunday (today).

U-16 boys’ singles (quarter-finals):

Arsalan Khan (Lahore) bt Adil Haseeb (Daska) 21-8, 21-11; Hasan Zaidi bt Hannan Raza (Okara) 21-7, 21-11; Hafiz Irfan (Lahore) bt Adil (NWFP) 21-5, 21-7; Taimoor (Fs) bt Salman (NWFP) 21-7, 21-8.

U-16 girls’ singles (quarter-finals):

Amna Khan (Sindh) bt Danya (Islamabad) 21-14, 21-17; Khizra Rasheed (Islamabad) bt Mahwish (Sindh) 21-9, 21-17; Anam Bilal (Lahore) bt Sana (Army) 21-17, 21-17; Monisha (Sindh) bt Faryal Shahzad (Sindh) 21-8, 21-9.

U-19 girls’ singles (quarter-finals):

Aqsa Razaq (Army) bt Amna Khan (Sindh) 21-5, 21-15; Monisha (Sindh) bt Khizra Rasheed (Islamabad) 21-17, 21-8; Sumaira (Railways) bt Anam Bilal (Lahore) 21-9, 17-21, 21-12; Marukh Isa (Sindh) bt Sidra Hameed (Islamabad) 21-9,21-17.

U-19 boys' singles (pre-quarter-finals):
