Headingly tipped to capture Jhelum Cup

LAHORE, March 24: Three-year-old colt, Headingley, looks poised to win the Jhelum Cup to be gone over the sprinting distance of 1200m during the 30th Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.

With two wins and as many second places under his belt in his five outings, this son of Beltch Dancer out-of-Dante Again, Headingley is a classic colt in the shaping besides being an experienced runner in the seven acceptors' field. This is a class IV division II handicap race.

Among his rivals the bay horse, Sodagar, who registered a facile victory on March 4 last over 1400 metres is worth mentioning. The others are just to make the field. Headingley seems faster of them all. Noor, Harry Can View and Quince should fight for the frame in this sixth race of the day.

The supporting and fifth event, the Nero's Dream Cup, a class V division I handicap race to be gone over 1200 metres has a big field of eleven runners barring last-minute withdrawals. The three-year-old filly, Tropical who convincingly won Sunday last, looks set to make it two in a row.

Among his close rivals, Trump Coup, Penzy and Miss Photogenic are prominent but they are yet to show their form and consistency.

Julia Robert, Royal Luck and Grey Panther attract attention on their recent form and performances in the seventh and last race, a class V division 11 handicap event over 1200 metres. The first named has an edge over the other.

Harry Can Run, Chill and War Admiral are good sprinters in the fourth event, a class IV division 111 handicap race.

Chill is speedy than the others to prevail over them.

The Nero's Dream Plate, class V division 111 has eight runners. Of them Redouble, Royal Fish and Safe And Sound look good. But none of them is a consistent performer and it may be a hit and run race, who ever get an early advantage.

A card of seven races, two to be contested over 1000 metres and the other five over 1200 metres has been drawn for the day. The first race will start at 1.30pm.
