HYDERABAD: Court boycott

HYDERABAD, March 27: The High Court Bar Association (HCBA) decided in a meeting on Tuesday to completely boycott court proceedings on Wednesday.

The meeting presided over by HCBA President Abdul Sattar Kazi decided to boycott courts on Wednesday in Hyderabad, Dadu, Hala, Kotri, Badin, Mirpurkhas and circuit bench of Sindh High Curt, and also decided to organise a march, which would start from the Gul Centre and culminate at the local press club.

The call for boycott followed government announcement of holding a lawyers’ convention in Hyderabad on Wednesday, which would be addressed by Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim.

Lawyers, meanwhile, continued token hunger strike outside the civil courts building in protest against presidential reference against Chief Justice of Pakistan. Mukhtiar Khanzada, Khurram Abro, Sultan Sheikh, Zahid Ali and Ayaz Tunio sat at the hunger strikers’ camp.

NAWABSHAH: Lawyers protest gained momentum on Tuesday after a public prosecutor resigned in protest against the action against Justice Iftikhar.

Public Prosecutor Ms Manzooran Gopang stated in her resignation sent to solicitor that she had resigned in protest over illegal and unlawful removal of honourable CJP.

Earlier, two assistant public prosecutors Ali Nawaz Memon and Farida Altaf Bughio had resigned from their posts.

Members of District Bar Association continued boycott and a token hunger strike against the suspension of CJP. They boycotted criminal and civil cases at courts according to DBA decision to boycott the cases in which district attorney appeared.

Tahseen Soomro, Manzooran Gopang, Farhana Irum, Saba Mustafa, DBA General Secretary Ziaul Hassan Lanjar and Sikandar Ali Channa observed token hunger strike outside the session court building.

MIRPURKHAS: Members of DBA boycotted court proceedings while lawyers Sohbat Mari and Paryal Leghari observed a token hunger strike outside the bar room.

DEMO: The workers of Food Grain staged a demonstration outside the press club on Tuesday against the National Bank branch in Shahbaz Building and the officers of food department.
