Defence made impregnable: Musharraf

RAWALPINDI, April 2: President Gen Pervez Musharraf on Monday reiterated that the present government had made the defence of the country impregnable and had committed itself to equipping the armed forces with the latest weaponry. Pakistan would remain united and the country’s strategic capability and deterrence was credible than ever before, he said, and vowed to continue improving upon it.

Addressing officers and troops after witnessing a Battle Inoculation Exercise at Tilla Ranges, near Jhelum, he said the armed forces were fully capable of deterring any aggression.

According to the Inter Services Public Relations, troops from an armoured division including Al-Zarrar tanks, armoured personnel carriers, Self Propelled Artillery, supported by Pakistan Air Force aircraft and Army Aviation helicopters participated in the exercise, which was also witnessed by the vice-chief of army staff, corps commanders and other senior officers from the General Headquarters.

The president said that the nation had made great sacrifices for ensuring security of the country. Despite resource constraints, defence requirements are being adequately met and the trust reposed in the armed forces will be fulfilled at any cost.

President Musharraf said with the induction of high tech weaponry and equipment, the armed forces were very strong and fully capable of meeting any challenge.

He made special mention of the JF-17 Thunder aircraft, Agosta submarines and Al-Zarrar tanks.

The president went on to emphasise that Pakistan does not want war but it is the country’s power and strength along with economic progress which shall guarantee peace.
