BHC orders action against teachers, students

QUETTA, April 4: The Balochistan High Court on Tuesday ordered the vice-chancellor of the Balochistan University to take strict action against teachers and students involved in campus politics and skipping of classes.

The bench, comprising Chief Justice Amanullah Khan Yasinzai and Justice Akhtar Zaman, issued the order after taking suo motu notice on a report placed before it by the advocate-general on behalf of the university’s administration.

The report claimed that some office-bearers of the Academic Staff Association (ASA) at the university were affiliated with different political parties, and were creating problems for the administration by pressurising it to recruit teachers on non-merit basis.

The court order said that teachers being government employees could not take part in politics and directed the vice-chancellor to take action against them according to the university’s disciplinary rules. The vice-chancellor was also asked to ensure that teachers took classes regularly. The court further said that

ASA and student organisations should not be permitted to indulge in politics at educational institutions.
