HYDERABAD: Magsi condemns govt move to form tribal chiefs’ body
HYDERABAD, April 18: The Sindh Taraqqi-Pasand Party Chairman Dr Qadir Magsi has strongly criticised the constitution of a ten-member committee of chieftains by the government to resolve tribal disputes.
In a statement faxed to Dawn on Wednesday, he said that the step spoke volumes about the inefficiency of government, administration and police to enforce rule of law in the province.
He held the government and the establishment responsible for the growing tribal disputes in the province and said that the Sardars enjoyed the blessings of the government and they had been made the arbiters of peoples' destinies.
He accused the rulers and the establishment of resurrecting the Sardari system, which he said had pushed the province and Sindhis towards a precipice.
The people who were themselves responsible for bloodshed could not resolve the disputes, Mr Magsi said and added that the government, which could not enforce the rule of law and protect life and property of people had no right to remain in power.
NAZIM: Jamshoro District Nazim Malik Asad Sikandar on Wednesday directed the officials concerned of the district government to complete all the ongoing development schemes during the current financial year.
Presiding over a meeting of district officials at the council hall he directed the district naib nazim to advise all the union council nazims to submit the development schemes of their areas up to Rs1 million within two days. Twelve councillors elected to the reserved seats were also asked to submit new development schemes of Rs500,000 each within two days.
The nazim asked the public health engineer to carry out repairs of Khuda Ki Basti nullah as well as repair of the water pipeline between Khuda Ki Basti and Gharibabad.
Giving details of the schemes, Mr Sikandar said that Rs30 million would be spent on the reconstruction of main road from Allahwala Chowk to the railway crossing and streetlights while an amount of Rs18 million would be spent on the construction of roads and drainage system from Baracha Chowk up to the Baba Salahuddin’s shrine.
He said that an amount of Rs55 million would be spent on the main road of Khuda Ki Basti and sewerage lines and Rs10 million would be spent on the construction of new roads of Manjhand railway station, Manjhand town up to the Indus Highway.
Mr Sikandar directed EDO works to ensure completion of all the development schemes within stipulated period.
