HYDERABAD: Kotri rally opposes construction of RBOD
The rally started from Eidgah and after marching on main roads, protesters staged a sit-in at Al-Madina Chowk.
Speaking on the occasion, People’s Party Parliamentarians MNA Nawab Abdul Ghani Talpur asked the authorities to shelve the RBOD project, saying it will turn the entire Jamshoro into a barren land.
He said initially its cost was estimated at Rs14 billion which now has now gone to Rs34 billion. He said he will deposit a call attention notice in the National Assembly to know how much money has been spent until now.
PPP leader Dr Sikandar Ali Shoro also called for cancelling the RBOD project as according to him it will destroy millions of acres of agricultural land and properties of Jamshoro.
He warned of staging sit-ins on highways and railways track if the plan was not abandoned.
Other speakers included Abdul Fatah Channa, Ghulam Shabbir Magsi and Sikandar Brohi.
JUI: Activists of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Fazl) on Saturday demonstrated outside the Hyderabad Press Club against the missile attack on the residence of the leader of opposition in the National Assembly and General Secretary of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, in Dera Ismail Khan.
District JUI-F President Maulana Taj Mohammad Nahiyoon, Haji Gul Mohammad, Qari Kamran Ahmed, Hafiz Khalid Hussain Dhamra and others condemned the attack terming it an act of cowardice.
They said their non-violence policy should not be misconstrued as weakness.
Through a planned conspiracy, they said, extremism was being promoted in the country.
They demanded exposure and arrest those involved in the attack.
DEMO: Acute water shortage in union council-13 and 14 of Hyderabad City taluka forced the residents to come out on the streets. Protesters marched from Afandi town up to Hyderabad Press Club raising slogans against WASA.
Mir Balach said people were facing acute water shortage but instead of resolving the problem they are being implicated into false cases and are subjected to violence by police for raising voice. He demanded withdrawal of cases against protesters and punishment to those police officers who resort to violence.People demanded restoration of water supply to the area immediately.
