HYDERABAD: Lawyers burn copies of reference

HYDERABAD, April 24: Lawyers staged rallies after boycotting court proceedings across the province on Tuesday as part of their continuous protest over the president’s action against Chief Justice of Pakistan.

Their protest coincided with the hearing of reference against the ‘non-functional’ CJP at Islamabad.

In Hyderabad, lawyers burnt copies of presidential reference and condemned the issuance of a show-cause notice by Pemra to a private TV channel "Aaj". Later, they also observed a token hunger strike outside the judicial complex.

Activists of Jamaat-i-Islami, JUI-F, JUP, PTI, PPP and PML-N also staged a joint demonstration outside the press club.

In Larkana, lawyers beat deputy district attorney Gada Hussain Abro for pleading a case in the court.

Lawyers in Dadu, Kotri, Sanghar, Naushahro Feroze, Khairpur, Moro, Bhirya, Kandiaro, Thari Mirwah, Gambat, Kingri, Jacobabad, Nawabshah, Mirpurkhas and Thatta also boycotted courts, observed token hunger strikes, rallies and burnt copies of presidential reference.
