NAWABSHAH: Protest against DCO

NAWABSHAH, April 27: In the wake of a row between the district nazim and the DCO, PPP activists and party-backed Awam Dost members of the district council continued protest against the DCO here on Friday.

On the other hand, workers of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League took out a procession in Daur to express solidarity with the official.

A large number of People’s Party Parliamentarians activists and the elected representatives observed token hunger strike outside the Nawabshah Press Club, demanding immediate removal of DCO Ahmed Bux Khokhar.

The protesters were led by District Naib Nazim Abdul Haq Jamali, MPA Ghulam Qadir Chandio, Nawabshah taluka PPP president Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, Daur Taluka Nazim Khurram Yar Mohammad Brohi, Nawabshah Taluka Naib Nazim Khan Bahadur Bhatti and PPP women wing leader Iffat Rubab Zardari.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Jamali, Mr Chandio and others criticized the DCO and accused him of misconduct with District Nazim Faryal Talpur and mismanagement in administrative and financial matters. They alleged that the DCO withheld funds due to which development works had been halted.

They alleged that millions of rupees of Zakat and other funds had lapsed last year because of the DCO and during current year, he had continued same practice as he was not releasing Baitul Maal and Zakat funds meant for distribution among the destitute.

Referring to differences between the district nazim and the DCO over the transfer of an executive district officer, they alleged that a conspiracy had been hatched against the local government system and the bureaucracy wanted to fail the system. They said that Mrs Talpur and other nazims were elected representatives of the people and working for welfare of the masses.

Meanwhile, PML activists took out a procession in favour of the DCO in Daur. The procession started from outside the Muslim League House and ended at the press club. The participants raised slogans in favour of Mr Khokhar.
