Five policemen among 6 injured brought to Pims
ISLAMABAD, April 29: Six people injured in the Charsadda terrorist attack were brought to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) on Sunday.
Five of the injured were personnel of the Islamabad police while the sixth one was identified as Raja Javed, personal secretary to the federal minister.
Hospital authorities said Mohammad Yousuf, one of the injured police constables who was guarding the federal minister, was in critical condition.
The other injured police personnel were Raza Gul, Mohammad Khalid, Pervez Khan and Saeed Gul.
One of the injured policemen told Dawn that he was with Mr Sherpao when he saw a man rushing towards the minister. He said the suicide attacker blew himself up when he was stopped by one of the policemen on guard duty.
A senior police official of the ICT told Dawn that usually a squad of 14 well-trained and well-equipped police personnel was deployed with the federal minister as security guards. However, on Saturday when the minister was addressing a rally outside the federal capital, only seven policemen were on duty with him. Out of the seven, two belonged to the special branch, while one was from the anti-terrorist squad.
