QUETTA: BHC seeks whereabouts of convict

QUETTA, April 30: A division bench of the Balochistan high court has issued a notice to the superintendent district jail Lahore, ordering him to explain where the convict Shiekh Islam, the owner of a coalmine, was confined at the prison.

The bench, comprising Chief Justice Amanullah Khan Yasinzai and Justice Akhtar Zaman Malghani, on Monday ordered the provincial home secretary to continue efforts to shift the convict to a district jail in Quetta.

Mr Islam had been sentenced to six months imprisonment in a contempt of court case.

In a previous hearing on April 25, the advocate-general of Balochistan had placed a letter from home department Punjab which stated that Mr Islam was under medical treatment in district jail Lahore, but the court had observed that a medical certificate was not attached to the letter. The hearing was adjourned to May 7.
