CHITRAL: Community bans hunting
CHITRAL, May 11: Hunting has been banned by locals in the Drosh village after an unknown huntsman shot down a rare bird.
The decision to impose a ban was collectively taken by community leaders here on Friday. Sardar Abdur Rehman, a community leader, said the dove-sized bird was believed to have migrated from Afghanistan some days ago, adding that it was covered with multi-coloured feathers.
Its most distinctive feature was its foot-long tail, making it unique. He said that locals had started calling the bird “drung rumi” — or “long-tailed”.
He said that people were shocked when they saw the bird’s carcass, stripped of its tail feathers.
They added that whoever violated the ban would have to face a social boycott.
