SWABI: Reinstatement of nine workers sought
SWABI, May 25: The All-Pakistan Clerks Association (Apca) has threatened to call a strike if nine employees of the local Zakat administration, suspended in a case involving the district Zakat officer, were not immediately reinstated.
This was decided at a meeting attended by Apca’s provincial vice-president Abdul Samad, its other office-bearers and the suspended employees.
Tilawat Khan, the district Zakat officer, was reportedly ‘caught’ with two women in his office on May 19. Later, one of them had allegedly confessed to having ‘illicit relations’ with the officer. Three days ago, the provincial Zakat department moved to suspend the Zakat officer, besides an assistant, three junior clerks, three class-IV workers and two watchmen.
The suspended employees said the incident had occurred after office hours and only the Zakat officer was found to be involved in wrongdoing, if any. Thus, there was no justification for the suspension of other employees, they said.—Correspondent
