Lawyers rap ban on Imran, oath of acting CJP

SARGODHA, May 28: Lawyers boycotted court proceedings after 10am to show their resentment over banning Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan from leaving Lahore and sending Justice Bhagwan Das abroad.

A meeting of lawyers presided over by District Bar Association (DBA) President Malik Afzal Farooka alleged the PTI chief, who was to address the DBA Sargodha today (Tuesday), had been detained in Lahore without any legal justification. The meeting alleged General Pervez Musharraf was supporting anti-state elements, including Muttahida Qaumi Movement Chief Altaf Husain. The meetings warned if Mr Khan was harmed, lawyers would not let any MQM member in Punjab or Islamabad.

The lawyer also observed Yume-i-Takbeer and paid rich tribute to Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan.

KASUR: Up to 300 lawyers observed a day-long strike and boycotted the courts proceedings on Monday. Later, they met at Library Hall where they said oath taken by Justice Javed Iqbal as acting chief justice of the Supreme Court was illegal. They said Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry could hold the office of the CJP. Speakers paid glowing tribute to Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Mian Nawaz Sharif and Dr Abdul Qadeer for making Pakistan a nuclear power.

MANDI BAHAUDDIN: Hundreds of lawyers observed a half-day boycott of courts on Monday against oath of Acting CJP Javed Iqbal.

They said they would continue agitation against the “illegal measures of the government”.
