HYDERABAD: Funds from centre not received, minister told : Hyderabad development package

HYDERABAD, June 8: Due to delay in release of funds, work on the federal government-funded schemes under the Hyderabad Development Package (HDP) has not begun but tenders for three schemes had been issued.

This was said by the project manager of HDP consultant, M/s Usmani and Company, while briefing Sindh Minister for Local Bodies and Kutchi Abadis Mohammad Hussain Khan about the work on the package schemes at a meeting of the HDP steering committee at the district nazim secretariat.

The project manager said that work on 27 Sindh government-funded schemes was in progress and three schemes had been completed. The schemes included the installations of two generators at the sewerage disposal pumping station and water treatment plant pumping station and construction of an overhead bridge on the National Highway near Zubaida Girls College.

Hyderabad Development Package project director Syed Sarfaraz Ali Shah, informed the minister about the bottlenecks he was facing in carrying out his work.

District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil told the meeting that the capacity of sewerage pumping stations had been increased which had improved the sewerage system. He expressed the hope that the people would not face any sewerage problem during the coming rainy season.

The minister directed the concerned officials of the district government to accelerate the pace of work on schemes launched under the package, complete them within the stipulated period and ensure quality of work.

He said that that work on the development schemes should continue day and night to provide maximum basic facilities to the people within minimum possible time.

He said that the people of Hyderabad had been ignored by previous governments but the present government had announced a special development package and earmarked billions of rupees for this purpose.

He said that the residents of Hyderabad would be provided basic facilities through the package.

The meeting was also attended by a representative of the army and DCO Mohammad Hussain Syed.

BEAUTIFICATION: Hyderabad Development Authority director-general Altaf Hussain Memon has directed the executive engineers concerned and their subordinates to ensure quality of work on the ongoing beautification programme of the city.

He issued the instructions during his visit to various sites where beautification work is under progress.

He said that special attention should be paid to the Thandi Sarak, one of the most important roads of the city, and the Civic Centre area. He said that fountains should be installed at important places and saplings planted on both sides of the roads, including Wahdhu Wah road.
