Addressing the Lahore Garrison officers at the Corps Headquarters auditorium, the president stressed the need for responsible behaviour as the country was passing through the most crucial phase of its history.
Terming obscurantist and extremist elements major impediments in the way of economic progress, he urged moderate to support the development of the country.
He said Pakistan’s economic growth was considered as the best in the world.
The president said efforts were being made to ensure consolidation and reorganisation of paramilitary forces, adding that they would be equipped with better weapons and provided extensive training to control militancy. He said Pakistan’s armed forces were symbols of national integration.
The president said Pakistan initiated peace process in the region but the country was fully conscious of its security needs. He said: “We do not foster any offensive designs against any country but induction of latest arms and equipment in the armed forces is our right.”
