Faisalabad on verge of inter-board crown

LAHORE, June 23: Faisalabad Board were set to win the second Chief Minister Punjab Inter-board Games which were to conclude with a closing ceremony on Saturday night.

As the organisers failed to complete the points table after deciding to hold some athletics events in the closing ceremony, the final points tally could not be issued by them.

But according to the latest points position, Faisalabad Board had accumulated 560 points, followed by Lahore, who had scored 400 points. Multan were at the third spot with 210 points.

The Lahore boys won the hockey title defeating Faisalabad 2-0. Anjum and Rasheed were the scorers. Multan earned the third spot beating Gujranwala 5-1.

In football Rawalpindi took the boys’ crown after winning the final against Multan 5-4. For the winners Mujahid scored two while Yasir, Mohammad Nafees and Tauqir netted one goal each. For Multan Waqar, Arsalan, Mohammad Rizwan and Mohammad Kashif struck one goal each.

Faisalabad claimed the third spot overcoming Bahawalpur 2-1.

In the boys’ basketball Faisalabad emerged as champions overpowering Multan in the final 50-48. The winners led the first half 29-24. For Faisalabad Nisar Hyder (15), Shahzad (12) and Ahmad Nawaz (10) were the main scorers while Zia (28), Najeeb (15) and Rehan (10) were the key scorers from the Multan side.

Lahore downed Sargodha 44-35 to claim the third position after leading the first half 21-17.

Also on Saturday, in the girls’ basketball Rawalpindi claimed the top post as they trounced Faisalabad 18-11 after taking an 8-7 lead at the half time. For Rawalpindi, Erum, Shabnam scored six points each while for Faisalabad Manzar scored eight points.

Multan claimed the third position winning against Gujranwala 82-34.

The girls’ badminton title went to Faisalabad who beat Gujranwala 3-1. Gujranwala prevailed over Rawalpindi 3-0 to earn the third position.

Lahore won the boys’ table tennis contest, outclassing Bahawalpur 3-0. Gujranwala got the third position whereas the girls’ title was captured by Faisalabad who overwhelmed Lahore 3-1 in the final. Meanwhile, Multan earned the third spot, outplaying Gujranwala 3-0.

In the girls’ volleyball Gujranwala beat Bahawalpur in the final 25-11, 25-15, 25-14 whereas the boys’ title was obtained by Lahore who thrashed Multan in the final 25-13, 25-14, 25-8.

In the meantime, Faisalabad conquered Gujranwala in the kabaddi final 66-48.
