DADU: LUMHS expels four students

DADU, June 27: Registrar, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences Jamshoro, on Wednesday issued rustication notices to four MBBS students of the university on charges of extortion and creating law and order situation in the university.

They included Shahabuddin Arain, Zafar Arain, Lal Shahbaz Arain and Adil Memon who would be rusticated for a period of five years. The notices have been issued to the students after a high-level meeting of university officials.

These students were arrested by the Jamshoro police after registration of an FIR against them by the Director Students Affairs LUMHS, Dr Khadim Hussain Lakhair, on charges of extortion and damaging furniture, windows and doors of the offices of VC and director students affairs about five days ago.

Meanwhile, the arrested students have been sent to Nara Jail on a14-day remand by judicial magistrate Kotri.

ACCIDENT: Two persons were killed while thirty others received injuries when two coaches overturned after colliding with a stationary truck at Lakha stop on the Indus Highway near Sann, on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Imtiaz Siyal and Abdul Ghafoor Kumbhar. The injured were admitted to Sehwan and LUMHS hospitals where condition of Farooq, Ali Gul, Saddam, Ghulam Mustafa, Ghulam Ali and Sikandar was stated to be precarious.

PROTEST: Growers and residents of Pipri village, Dad taluka, staged a demonstration here on Wednesday to protest against construction of power generation plant adjacent to their village by a private power company.

Later, speaking at a press conference at the residence of PML leader, Syed Mithal Shah, the protesters, including former taluka nazim, Syed Zafar Ali Shah, Ashique Hussain Zounr and others said that M/s Green Electric Company Ltd was constructing power plant on a 50- acre piece of land at a distance of 10 foot from the village.

They alleged that the company had purchased the land on a throw away price, on the pretext to install a factory with a commitment to provide jibs to the locals but now they were constructing a power plant.

They apprehended spread of diseases among villagers due to chemicals to be used in the plant.
