CHITRAL: Action against forest official urged

CHITRAL, June 28: The office-bearers of the Jinjirate Koh village’s Forest Protection Committee have demanded disciplinary action against an official of the revenue department who is allegedly trying to influence the land settlement staff to settle a certain part of the forest in the name of his relatives.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Abdul Nazeer, Naseerullah, Hazrat Mohammad and others said that Mohammad Javid, the private secretary to the revenue minister, was trying to deprive their tribe of their rights.

They said that their tribe Shaikh had been residing in the locality for centuries, adding that more than 90 per cent of the population of the valley belong to their tribe.

They said their tribe had always supported the government for preservation of forest and threatened to resort to violent protest if the government failed to stop the wrong settlement.
