ABBOTTABAD: Negligence blamed for poor Galyat tourism

ABBOTTABAD, June 28: Tourists in Galyat are facing problems due to water shortage and poor sanitation condition in the area. Local hotel industry, a major source of income for many people, has been struggling to survive because of official indifference, said a hotel owner.

He said the officials concerned were not providing facilities to tourists in the area.

The Galyat Development Authority is responsible for improving infrastructure in the area.

But, it has been rendered ineffective due to its transfer from the provincial government to the district administration and then again to the province.

Area people told Dawn that the water supply was much better when the GDA was managed by the public health department.

They said that the issue of water shortage must be solved as tourists residing in guest houses and bungalows were facing a lot of problems.

They said the system of street lights had collapsed since the current tourism season started.

The unavailability of parking lots is also stated to be one of the major problems for the visitors and traffic often remains jam on the narrow road in Nathiagali.

In the absence of the proper parking facility, tourists fear that their vehicles would be stolen.
